Grocery Shopping Guide for Low-Carb

Grocery store produce section with fresh vegetables

If it's not in your house, you can't eat it. A successful diet starts at the grocery store.

The Golden Rule: Shop the Perimeter

Grocery stores are designed with fresh food (Meat, Dairy, Produce) on the outside walls. The middle aisles are filled with processed boxes (Cereal, Crackers, Candy). Stay on the outside.

Produce Section

Buy: Spinach, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Avocados, Berries.
Skip: Potatoes, Bananas, Apples.

Meat Counter

Buy: Ground Beef (80/20 is cheaper and better), Chicken Thighs (skin on), Bacon, Pork Chops.
Skip: Breaded meats.

Dairy Aisle

Buy: Heavy Whipping Cream, Butter (Salted), Cheese blocks, Greek Yogurt (Plain), Eggs.
Skip: Milk (high sugar), Flavored Yogurtests, Margarine.

Too Expensive?

Meat costs money. But you can do this on a dime. Read Budget-Friendly Low-Carb Eating.
